The Benefits of Hiring A Doula

The Hodnett and Collegues, 2011, demonstrated meaningful outcomes for women who had Doula support during their labors, including:

  • 28% less likely to have a cesarean section
  • 31% less likely to use synthetic oxytocin to speed up labor
  • 9% less likely to use any pain medication
  • 34% less likely to rate their childbirth experience negatively

Birth Doulas are trained, experienced professionals in childbirth who provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother before, during and just after childbirth.

Research shows parents with support:

  • Feel more secure and cared for
  • Have greater success with breastfeeding
  • Have greater self–confidence
  • Have less postpartum depression
  • Have lower incidence of abuse
  • Are better in adapting to their new family dynamics

The birth of a child is by far the most important event a woman will experience in life. It sets the stage for her season of motherhood, and is the tangible start of the relationship between mother and child. During this amazing time, second only to the health of mother and baby is ensuring the best possible birth experience overall. As a doula I recognize the most integral piece necessary can be a mother’s main support person and dedicate my time and efforts into supporting her support! A doula does not replace, but compliments the dynamic of a mother and her main support person. When needed, I am experienced and feel comfortable in providing sole labor support.

I have lived on O’ahu for 14 years; currently living in Kailua with my husband and our four children. I intend on spending my lifetime in the service of women and their families. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, being outdoors, and devouring chocolates!

Aloha! My name is Kehaulani Avicolli and I am a mom, wife, family member, friend, and founder of Hānau Hilinaʻi ("Trust Birth" in Hawaiian) Doula Services. I was born and raised in Kailua, on the beautiful island of Oʻahu. I currently reside here with my husband and our 1 yr. old son. We are complete ocean fanatics and lovers of quality time with family and friends.

I have been recently fascinated and inspired with my new journey as a Labor, Birth and Postpartum Doula. I am currently training and certifying with Doula Trainings International on a fantastic online program. During my own pregnancy and personal birth experience, I have been motivated to receive professional training and certification in hopes to better serve my community of birthing individuals, THEIR way. The time is now to support, encourage, and empower our Hawaiʻi families from pregnancy, birth, and beyond in establishing healthy relationships from the very beginning. I am honored to serve and share any part of that with you and your ʻohana!

The journey to parenthood is an amazing experience and I am always honored when I am chosen to be a part of it. I bring as much support and love to each and every birth in order to make the parents feel comfortable and taken care of so they can focus on each other. I love that I am able to witness the transformation of couples as they bring their little one into the world together. I believe that women have an innate knowledge of labor and birth and it is my goal to empower and educate in order for them to have the best possible birth experience.

I have been assisting and empowering women since 2013 and am in the process of completing my certification. I currently live in Kailua with my husband and our two children. In my free time I enjoy Hot Yoga and family beach days.

Aloha! I provide birth and postpartum doula services, as well as lactation support and education. I was born and raised on the North Shore of O’ahu. My Kiwi husband and I lived in New Zealand for 7 years, where we were blessed to experience two wonderful, natural childbirths under the care of our midwife. Through these experiences and my professional background in health service management, I became more aware of the maternity system in America. After watching my best friend navigate the maternity system on Mau’i, I knew I wanted to become a doula to care for and protect the rights of parents through their pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

Mãlama is Hawaiian and means, "to care for", "to protect". Having a doula can increase the chances of you experiencing the birth you want. Contact me to book your complimentary consultation to discuss your options for birthing on O’ahu.
